KTM Puts Zarco Out Of MotoGP Team

Kallio Replaces Zarco
In The KTM Factory MotoGP Team
For The Rest Of The Season

Johann Zarco And KTM Have Split
And KTM Have Cut Short His Season On Their Machine

  KTM Made An Announcement
About Their MotoGP Team
That Johann Zarco Has Been Replaced
By Mika Kallio For The Rest Of The 2019 Season

Zarco, the double Moto2 World Champion Frenchman, was due to leave the Red Bull KTM Factory MotoGP Racing team at the end of the season but KTM have brought forward the conclusion of Zarco riding for them in the MotoGP 2019 season.
Zarco and KTM had mutually agreed to end his contract earlier than at the end of 2020, which is what they originnally signed last year.

Zarco will not ride the KTM again for them for the rest of this MotoGP season
Zarco, who joined KTM from Tech3 Yamaha for the 2019 and 2020 MotoGP seasons, was granted a release from his two-year contract with the Austrian marque from the end of this year in August.

Zarco has had a torrid time on the KTM RC16 but was set to complete the current season.

He was to finish riding for them at the end of 2019 but KTM want to speed-up the development of the KTM RC16. The Frenchman has been released from his MotoGP duties but he stays contracted to KTM until the end of the season. They have said that although Zarco’s results have improved they feel that he is holding up the developement of the bike in real race conditions, therefore the want Kallio to replace him.

He had one of his better outings of 2019 at Misano when he qualified eighth fastest, started 11th due to a grid penalty from his Silverstone incident with Miguel Oliveira and he finished the Misano race a comendable 11th.

Zarco is currently 17th in the championship with his best finish this year a tenth in the Catalunya Grand Prix, Barcelona in Spain and one front row qualification at a wet Brno.
However, KTM has now opted to replace him immediately with one of their two test riders, Mika Kallio, as they want to step-u
Zarco said

"I wanted to continue until the end of this year to keep pushing myself to get the best possible results for myself and for KTM.
p their ongoing development.
"But now I want to find a new opportunity with another MotoGP team to come back stronger. "At the moment I don't know who with, it is difficult as most teams have contracts until the end of 2020. So it will be hard to find a team, but we have some teams to talk to.
"I am optomistic, I think we will find a team for next year. Until then I will train hard to keep myself fit and in a better shape."
KTM have said that they are in a crucial phase of their MotoGP project with an intense focus on the next generation of the KTM RC16.

Kallio, the Finish rider, has been their long-term and experienced test rider, he will play a major part in further improving the KTM RC16 and obtaining valuable data under racing conditions. Kallio will race alongside Pol Espargaro.

Espargaro in 2019 has had seven top ten results and qualified second on the grid at the last Grand Prix in San Marino.

In the 2018 Jerez MotoGP Race he finished tenth and in the 2017 Austrian MotoGP Race he also finished tenth.
In his racing career he has a total of 16 GP victories and 49 podiums in the Moto2, 250cc and 125cc classes.
Kallio who rode the KTM in its début MotoGP season in Valencia 2016 and has contributed a great deal to the development of the RC16 from early testing of the RC16.

He has raced the KTM in seven wild card races from 2016 until 2018. He has achieved two top ten finishes on the MotoGP bike. In his racing career he has a total of 16 Moto2 victories and 49 podiums.
Kallio is eager to ride the 2019 KTM in the premier class again and to continue to develop the bike both for the rest of the 2019 season and the 2020 KTM RC16 machine. Spurned along with new drive and increased commitment by the KTM MotoGP management and team.
He will ride alongside Pol Espargaro for the rest of 2019 and the 2020 season
Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director said

"We have to make decisions to ensure that we use our resources in the best possible way and we are currently in a positive direction with our MotoGP structure.

"We firmly believe that Mika can help us in this stage thanks to his knowledge and background. It is paramount that we verify our testing results in real race conditions to start our 2020 season in the best position.
"Mika has proved his ability on the RC16 and we are happy that he joins the line-up as our MotoGP racer again. There is no doubt that we will focus on a new configuration with the 2019 bike while fighting for points in the remaining races of the 2019 championship season.

"At the same time we want to express gratitude to Johann for his effort since he joined our ambitious project in November last year."
"We now have to think of the future and are making this step accordingly. "KTM will continue supporting him until the expiry of our contract at the end of the 2019 and we truly wish him all the best for his future."

Quartararo, the Petronas Yamaha SRT rider, did a time of 1 minute 33.153 seconds in the first MotoGP Free Practice session.

The Frenchman knocked Championship leader Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda Team, off the top position by 0.376 of a second and Maverick Vinales, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team, was third fastest.

Quartararo had a bit of a scare towards the end of the session, but despite that he set the FP1 pace at Misano for the San Marino GP.

The riders took to the track in sunny conditions for FP1, and it was both Quartararo and Marquez who sat at the top of the timing screens from the start.

Eventually, the rookie sensation was able to take first session honours by a considerable margin, despite a late scare at the fast right-hand kink, with Vinales just 0.070 of a second behind Marquez. Ducati Team test rider Michele Pirro who is a master around Misano, he was the leading Ducati rider in fourth, with Aleix Espargaro having a great opening session on his Aprilia Racing Team Gresini machine to grab a top-five spot. His younger brother, Pol Espargaro, of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, made it five manufacturers in the top six.

However, Espargaro’s team-mate Andrea Iannone crashed midway through the session.

Iannone was taken to the Clinica Mobile and found to have injured his shoulder. He will take no further part in the San Marino Grand Prix.

Vinales Goes Fastest To Take Pole

Qualifying Two
Maverick Vinales the Factory Monster Energy Yamaha rider led KTM stand-out Pol Espargaro in qualifying for MotoGP's San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, as Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi had another spat.

Marquez, after a crash in FP4 , was behind Rossi on his final Q2 lap and looked on course to secure a front row spot.

Marquez overtook Rossi at Curvone, the Factory Monster Energy Yamaha rider closed back up after Marquez ran wide and launched it down the inside of the Honda man at the hairpin-like Turn 14, with both riders' laps compromised as Rossi ran wide.

Marquez was thus left fifth on the grid, five tenths off Vinales and two places up on Rossi for the San Marino Grand Prix Race at Misano.

Andrea Dovizioso showed signs of his usual self getting back up the charts to third ahead of the 40 year old Italian "The Doctor" Valentino Rossi who took fourth.

Rossi looked like he could have be a contended for the win today.
He showed consistent good form and had the speed to challenge with the leaders until his tyres gave up.
